Year 8 Religious Studies

Year 8 Religious Studies

Year 8 Religious Studies invites students aged 12 to 13 to think like philosophers about the biggest questions. They meet Ibn Sina, Maimonides and Aquinas, explore ideas about God, religious language and the ontological argument, and weigh faith and doubt, prayer and meditation, and the story of Job. They go on to free will, criticisms of religion, science and religion, what makes a person, whether a machine can think, purpose, happiness, awe and wonder, the four loves, religion in the media and pilgrimage. Each unit opens with a painted scene, followed by clear explanations, key words, an activity and questions, with answers and a word list at the back. It never tells students what to believe.
