Secondary Music

Secondary Music

Secondary Music is a clear, friendly textbook for students aged 11 to 14 (Key Stage 3, Years 7–9). It follows the national curriculum programme of study for music in England, uses the Model Music Curriculum as a guide to the order of learning, and leads towards GCSE Music. Students build performing, singing, composing, improvising and listening skills step by step, and learn staff notation from the first rhythms to treble and bass clefs and compound time. They explore the dimensions of music, instruments and timbre, keys, chords and cadences, structure, texture and melody, and the story of Western music from the Baroque to the present day. Later units cover popular music and song writing, music technology, scales and modes, music from Brazil, India, Indonesia, Jamaica and Zimbabwe, film and game music, music since 1900, and a Year 9 blues project. Every unit has printed music examples, listening suggestions, activities and practice questions with full answers, and a glossary of musical terms makes it a supportive companion for class, homework and revision.
