Primary Computing
Primary Computing is a bright, friendly computing book for children aged 5 to 11 (Key Stages 1 and 2, Years 1–6). It follows the national curriculum for computing in England, building skills step by step without needing any particular app or device. Children start with technology all around us, clear instructions and floor robots, then move on to sorting data, digital pictures, first block programs, predicting and debugging. They learn about repeat loops, computer networks, stop-frame animation, the internet and the web, loops in games, data logging and making podcasts, and then selection, how search engines work, databases, variables, physical computing and spreadsheets, finishing with a big project of their own. Staying safe, kind and responsible online runs through the whole book. Every unit has a story, key words, activities, talk-about-it ideas and questions with answers, each with a simple ‘How we work it out’ explanation, plus a glossary and a computing reference section.
