Primary Music
Primary Music is a bright, friendly music book for children aged 5 to 11 (Key Stages 1 and 2, Years 1–6). It follows the national curriculum for music in England and uses the Model Music Curriculum as a guide to the order of learning. Children sing, chant, play, listen, improvise and compose step by step: finding the beat, rhythm names and stick notation, so-mi songs and pentatonic tunes, then the stave, note values, time signatures and simple scores. They meet the instruments of the orchestra and music from around the world and through time, from Mozart and Ravel to jazz, gamelan and samba. Each unit has a story, key words, listening ideas, activities and questions with answers, plus a simple glossary and a guide to looking after your voice and ears.
